Dear Parents/Carers,
I would like to introduce myself as the new chair of DBIS PTSA. I have three girls at DBIS – Aoife (Year 12), Eleni (Year 9) AND Essie (Year 4). I have lived in Asia for 13 years. This is my second stint in HK, and I have just reached three years of living in DB and being part of the DBIS community.
I would also like to introduce Melissa Whitehead, who has kindly agreed to perform the role of Co-Chair. Melissa has one daughter, Molly (Year 9), and has also lived in HK for three years, arriving from four years in the Philippines.
We are a community school, and I believe the role of the PTSA is vital in ensuring a strong sense of community throughout the whole school.
We are also focused on fundraising in order to support the school in providing additional opportunities for your children.
It is a big year ahead for DBIS as the school officially turns 40 in January 2023. With this in mind, the PTSA hopes to run a few very special events to mark the occasion. We also are hoping to revive events that the school has traditionally been involved with before social distancing regulations made large gatherings impossible. With cautious optimism, the PTSA are delighted to announce a few tentative events that are already in the planning stages.
We are aiming to start the school year off as we mean to go on by hosting a Welcome BBQ. This event will be an opportunity for existing families to reconnect after the summer break and also for newly arriving families to be welcomed into the DBIS community. Within the first term, we are also planning to hold a quiz night, a new-parent coffee morning and second-hand uniform sales.
In 2023, we have two ambitious plans. The first is to revive the much-loved Food Fair – a huge event for the DB community as a whole. The second is a ball to celebrate DBIS turning 40. These events aim to strengthen the school community and also raise funds to allow for extraordinary opportunities for our students.
We are all busy but, as they say, many hands make light work, so my first task is a request for help with the PTSA. We need as little or as much help as you are able to offer. Volunteers are vital to ensuring PTSA activities happen, and we are grateful and accepting of all offers! Please take a look at this link for further information.
Thank you in advance for your help and support,
Niamh Daniels
