A Visit by Hong Kong Stories: A DBIS Book Week 2023 Event

Dear Parents

DBIS Book Week kicks off on Monday 17th April, and I’m delighted to announce that Rachel Smith, Producer and Organiser for Hong Kong Stories, will be sharing the art of storytelling with Y7–9 students.

The theme of DBIS Book Week this year is We All Have A Story To Tell: Celebrating Inclusive Stories. Hong Kong Stories strongly advocate that everyone has a story to tell and that storytelling allows us to connect with one another, beyond labels and perceptions. The growth of community and relationships depends on connections, and stories provide those. As such, inclusiveness is an inherent part of Hong Kong Stories’ storytelling presentations.

In her hour-long session, Rachel will tell a story, have a conversation with students about storytelling and run an activity to show just how connected people are through stories.

This session will take place as part of an extended assembly on Monday 17th April. Students will then have the opportunity to use what they learn from Rachel’s visit to sign up to our Secondary Open Mic event being held on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime during Book Week.

Hong Kong Stories is dedicated to the art of storytelling. It runs weekly workshops and produces over 12 live shows per year, as well as a podcast. In addition, it organises the Student Story Slam competition, which offers students public speaking experience to boost creativity and build presentation skills.

We look forward to welcoming Hong Kong Stories to DBIS and sharing our stories.

Kind regards
