EY1 Welcome to Term 3

Dear EY1 Families,

We hope you all had a relaxing spring break and that the children are feeling refreshed, ready for their return to learning. We are delighted to be welcoming the children back into school on Tuesday 19th April! Please see the information below regarding learning in EY1 in Term 3.

Morning Routine

The school day will be the same as before the school closure. The school gates will open at 8.20am, with classroom doors opening at 8.25am. The day will end at 3.10pm, when the children will be dismissed as usual from their classroom.

All adults are now required to scan the ‘Leave Home Safe’ App to enter the school campus and must have proof of at least one vaccination.

Please ensure your child’s temperature card is filled out each morning before school, ready to show their teacher at the classroom door. On Tuesday 19th April, we will give the children their new temperature cards, which they will fill in at school on this day.

The children will need to wear their mask to school and bring a spare, named one in their bag. They will also need to bring their school sun hat to school each day. Reading and Library books will continue to be given out on the same days as before the school closure. The children will need to bring their Library and Reading folders into school on the appropriate days.

Dismissal Routine

Please ensure that the three specified adults for collection have their ‘pick up card’ at the end of the day to show your child’s teacher. As before the closure, if the cards are not presented at the classroom door, the children will have to be signed out at the office before collection.

World Book Week

The first week back after the spring break includes ‘World Book Day’. The main focus for this years Book Week is Global Goals. To celebrate the week, the children are invited to dress up as a book character on Friday 22nd April. They can also bring their favourite book to school on this day to share with their class.

Learning in Term 3

During Term 3 we will be covering the following areas of learning:

Maths:

  • Measurement: Time
  • Number: Place Value
  • Number: Addition and Subtraction

Reading:

The children will continue with the Read Write Inc programme. Reading books will also come home in Week 2’s Home Learning pack. Please note some reading levels may have changed.

Writing:

Writing opportunities will be available within the provision in Term 3, and the children will be encouraged to include varied punctuation, time conjunctions, connectives and adjectives in their writing. They will also be encouraged to read aloud what they have read and orally prepare what they wish to write.

Discovery:

We will be starting our brand new EY1 Discovery Unit this term: ‘Healthy Happy Humans’. This unit’s conceptual lens is Balance, and we will look at how we have changed and grown and discuss how we can make balanced, healthy choices.

We really are looking forward to having the children back in our classrooms after the spring break and are excited for the term ahead.

Kind regards,

The EY1 Team
