Lost Property – Term 3 Update

Looking After Your Belongings at DBIS

Dear Parents and Students

Our Lost Property Team has been working hard to keep the ever increasing amounts of Lost Property in order. With a growing school, we do not have space to store and display the huge amounts of lost items we receive each week. Our aim is to keep the Lost Property cupboards neat, tidy and accessible to all DBIS students. The system in place is to assist students to take responsibility for finding their lost items if they have misplaced them or forgotten to take them home.

What can you do to help
  • We would love some extra hands to help us, see information below.
  • PLEASE LABEL all items that come to school.
  • Make a check list for your child of items brought to school on a daily / weekly basis and check in with them as to what is missing.
  • Encourage your child to take responsibility for their missing items. Items often turn up in the Lost Property area a few days after being lost, this is due to the high volume of items left lying around the school.
  • Know the system : There are collection boxes around the school, these being at the Gymnasium, Globe Girls Change Rooms, Globe Boys Change Rooms and Secondary School 1st Floor Lockers. These boxes are cleared out once a week. The new Swimming facilities are cleared by site staff and items left there are dried and added to the general lost items.
  • We are in the process of rearranging the layout of the Lost Property cupboards to store all items, including hanging items at a more accessible height.
  • Please ask your child not to use hats that are not theirs from the Lost Property, these turn up and then go missing again.

This week we have bagged over 30 hoodies and other school uniform items that have been hanging on the racks for over a month. Items are dated with different coloured stickers as they come in. After 4 weeks, clothing items are washed and donated to the PTSA  2nd hand sales. Every 2-3 weeks, water bottles and lunch containers that are not labelled are cleared out and donated to 2nd hand collection boxes. We would like to make these turn around times quicker, this can easily be achieved with some extra volunteers.

If your child has been on camp recently, please check the Lost Property, there are many items from camp in the Lost Property. These include towels, costumes, hats, water shoes, trainers, clothes…

The Secondary items box has many umbrellas from last weeks rain and items left on top of lockers often find their way to down to the cupboards.

We would love your help, even once or twice a month would lighten our load. Please contact Ina 9307 7855 if you would be so kind as to offer your time and she will give you more details and introduce you to our WhatsApp group. Collecting and sorting items is a really easy way to help.

Kind Regards
The Lost Property Team
