Mock Exam Communication

Dear Year 10 Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to remind you that the Year 10 mock examination week will be taking place from Tuesday 23rd May until Friday 2nd June 2023.

The format of these exams will give students a chance to experience how a formal exam series feels, and will serve as an opportunity for subject teachers to assess students on a breadth of content covered so far in the course. This will be followed by a report cycle to feed back your child’s attainment at this stage in the IGCSE course.

During the examination week, students will be placed on study leave, meaning that they are only expected to be on-site at the times that they are sitting an exam. If students do not have an exam in the second session, they will be expected to leave the school site and continue their preparations at home.

On days when students have an exam in both the first and second session, they will be expected to return home in between the exam sessions. After the morning session, students should go home, have their lunch and then return to school for the afternoon session. If travelling home is an issue for those living further afield, please do contact us to let us know so that we can make arrangements.

Format for exam week:

There are two exam sessions per day (in most instances), both of which will be held at  the Sixth Form campus of DBIS – the North Plaza.

  • Students will have an exam in every subject.
  • Students who have examinations during the first session should arrive at school at the normal time (before 8.30am)
  • On days when students just have a second session exam, they will need to arrive 30 minutes before the start of their exam.
  • Registration (along with signing out) will take place with Erica at the Sixth Form Secondary reception. Students need to register upon arrival AND departure from the Sixth Form campus.
  • Monday 22nd May will be a normal school day.

Between now and the start of the exam week, students will prepare or have already prepared a revision timetable. They have already been exploring different revision techniques, such as blurting, highlighting, interleaving, spaced repetitions (over different days), studying with music, note taking, re-reading notes, watching YouTube tutorials and Pomodoro – all of which can be accessed via their Tutor Google Classroom. Please have conversations with them about what these techniques mean and which ones best reflect their respective subject course demands.

Tips and guidance are also accessible within the additional information outlined within the EXAMINATION TIMETABLE. We would encourage you to access and utilise this.

If you have any questions regarding the mock exam process, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Amrith Prabhu
