New Teacher Profile – Wendy Thomson

Dear Parent or Guardian,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Science and PE teacher in the Secondary School. Many of you may recognise me, as I have been supply teaching in Early Years, Primary and Secondary for a few years now.

I graduated from Dalhousie University and the Technical University of Nova Scotia, both in Nova Scotia, Canada, with Math and Engineering degrees. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, 15 years ago, I was working as a Metallurgical Engineer in the Technical Sales Department for a Canadian steel company, working closely with the Big 3 Automotive Companies. Since moving to Hong Kong, I have been busy raising an energetic family of three boys and during this time, I earned my Bachelor of Teaching Secondary degree in 2015.

My goals this year for the students is to teach them strategies on how to be independent, organised and responsible learners in the Secondary environment. With this comes consequences for their choices, which leads to learning the life skills required for their future success.

I am looking forward to teaching your children and building strong foundational relationships to help support them, not only with their learning, but to help them through the early adolescent years they are encountering.

I look forward to meeting you all in person.

 Sincerely,

Wendy Thomson

Science and PE Teacher
