Primary Swimming Lessons

Term 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

Swimming lessons for primary students will be commencing on Monday 30 September for EY2 through to Primary Year 6 classes. EY1 will begin swimming on Monday 14 October. Details of when each class will be swimming can be seen below. Students will need to bring the following items to school for swimming lessons:

• DBIS swim shorts (boys)
• Towel
• DBIS rash vest
• DBIS house swimming cap
• DBIS swim suit (girls)
• Goggles
• Flip-flops
• Bag for wet things
• School uniform and underwear (if child is wearing swimming costume/shorts plus PE kit to school for a morning lesson)

It is recommend that all items have been clearly labeled with your child’s name to avoid loss of property.

If your child is swimming in the morning, they may wish to come to school in their swimming kit to save time and make changing easier. If your child has swimming in the afternoon, we recommend that they would be more comfortable in their school uniform and can change into swimwear at the start of the lesson.

Students will be grouped according to their individual swimming ability and will be taught and assessed by one of our 4 qualified swimming teachers. It is important to note that ability groups vary from class to class. A group 1 swimmer in one class might be working to the same level as a group 2 or 3 swimmer in another class. It is important to remember that students are grouped with students of a similar ability so that they are best able to progress. The group number doesn’t matter! Less able swimmers are always placed in the smallest group in the class so they can access more support in the water.

Primary Swimming Timetable: (EY2-Y6 30 September – 29 November inclusive, EY1 start on 14 October).
