Primary Uniform Reminders 2022–23

Dear Parents and Guardians,

A Message from Our Student Council

Our group of enthusiastic Student Councillors care deeply about our school and are extremely proud of being DBIS students. Recently, however, they have expressed their concerns to me about some things they believe we could all be doing a little better.

In order to do something about this, the School Councillors will be ‘Pointing out the Positives‘ each week, taking a different focus that they will keep secret from everyone so that they can celebrate the things that make us most proud. The children are keen to look for improvements in the following areas:

  • Taking pride in our appearance: School uniform (school shoes, tied-up hair, no jewellery etc.), consistent mask wearing.
  • Taking pride in our classrooms: Classroom tidiness, displays, locker areas etc.
  • Taking pride in our behaviour: Playground behaviours including where to play, hat wearing, inclusive game playing etc.
  • Taking pride in how we treat each other: General manners, supportive feedback, walking up and down stairs and corridors (rather than running) etc.

With this in mind, they have asked me to ask you for help over the Christmas holidays!

With the recent change in weather, they are noticing more children coming into school wearing non-uniform items. All students at Discovery Bay International School are required to wear the compulsory school uniform when attending school or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. A complete list of the items needed for school uniform upon enrolment and on the Parent Hub (HERE).

Student Council Guidance:

  • School jumpers should be worn in school when the weather is cold
  • Only stud earrings and watches are considered as part of the uniform, meaning that other jewellery items, including wristbands, bracelets and necklaces are not allowed.
  • Children with shoulder-length or longer hair must have their hair tied up.
  • Children should not come into school wearing nail varnish or temporary tattoos.
  • Trainers should only be worn on PE days; school shoes should be worn for all other days.

The uniform shop is currently closed for renovation and will reopen on Tuesday 17th January 2023. During the closure, items can be ordered by email and paid for by bank transfer. Please check the Hub notice to learn more about how to place an order.

We are all extremely proud of our school and I am sure that, like me, you will take time to support your children in achieving these expectations.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and Merry Christmas!
