Primary Weekly Update – 29th May 2020

Dear Primary Families,

What a wet week it has been, but the rain has not dampened the DBIS spirit, or the feeling of a celebration for us here in the Primary School. We are so pleased to now have all our year groups back in school, and we are extremely proud of how well all our students have adapted to the ‘new normal’ that school has become.

Thank you to all of you for ensuring the children arrive at school at their allotted time in the mornings. As a reminder, if children have younger siblings with a later start time, they are very welcome to join their older sibling and come into their classes at the earlier time if that helps you with drop off. We do need to adhere to a staggered start and end time, so I am afraid that we are not able to let children in earlier than their start time without an older sibling.

The children continue to amaze us with how well they have taken everything in their stride, remaining clam and adapting to the new routines and expectations that are so important for us to maintain if we are to remain open. We are grateful to them, and to you in supporting this at home too. Much as some of these new requirements are awkward and sometimes uncomfortable, our focus remains on supporting the wellbeing and safety of our students and all in our school community, so they are necessary.

As ever, we are extremely keen to hear your feedback in all areas of school and community, and with this in mind Mr. Haines has asked me to share with you a survey aimed at gathering some information on our community’s outdoor experiences during this unique period of time. Next year at DBIS, we are looking to enhance the student’s outdoor learning opportunities by harnessing some of the inspiring outdoor ideas and experiences that the community of Discovery Bay has enjoyed during the last couple of months. We would be extremely grateful if you could take a couple of minutes to complete this short survey to share your ideas with us:

I do hope the rain stays away and that you all enjoy the upcoming weekend.

Kind regards,

Susan Walter
