PTSA – DBIS International Food Fair Update

FOOD FAIR UPDATE 4th MARCH 2019

Well, we are almost there. I hope you all have your fingers crossed for sunshine – failing that get your umbrellas and raincoats ready, we are going to have a good time whatever the weather! I just have a few housekeeping notes and updates to share with you:

Performance Schedule:

This is now finalized and shared. If you still haven’t seen it, click on this link. We have a wonderful mix of old friends and new performers joining us on two stages so it is sure to be an entertaining afternoon.

There are still gaps in the volunteer sign-up sheets for activity stalls so if you have been waiting to find out when your child is on stage before putting your name down, please go ahead and do so as soon as possible. Grandparents, older siblings and Domestic Workers can sign up directly with Kylie or Tammy, parents can go to the following links:

Zero Waste Initiative

This year we are continuing our efforts to reduce waste as much as possible and once again strongly encourage you to bring your own cups, plates and eating utensils. There will be a free washing stall for you to visit when you want to try a different cuisine. We will also provide equipment to rent for a refundable deposit, so if you aren’t able to bring your plates with you, make sure you factor in the deposit when deciding how much cash to bring with you on the day  – plan on allowing around $20 – $40 per person, depending on how many items you need to rent.

Sponsorship Opportunities

If you would like to get some exposure for your business at the Food Fair it is not too late to donate a prize for one (or both) of the following:

  • Door prize  – guests will be asked to put their name and contact number on the back of used game cards and drop them in one of the big gold boxes at the entrance, covered area or in the Globe. Prizes will be drawn in the week following Food Fair and winners can collect from the school.

  • Lucky Dip – this is always a popular stall and the more prizes we can offer the longer it will run!

Sponsors will be featured on Facebook Posts this week and on posters at the Fair on the day. Please contact Monika if you would like to be included.

Proceeds

A few of you have asked what the PTSA does with the profits from Food Fair, and a thorough report will be presented at our next AGM. Every year a certain percentage is donated to one or more external charities, a larger portion is used to offer small grants to teachers and students for items or events outside of the school budget and for major projects at the school – last year we funded new audio-video equipment for the Globe renovation. A smaller amount is retained to cover PTSA running costs and event expenses.

That’s it from me for now. There is still plenty to be done but it is all taking shape nicely and we are all very much looking forward to welcoming you all on Saturday.

Warmest regards,

Liz Hemmings
