Results day and university offers 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we approach the start of the exam season for Year 13, there is important information that you need to be aware of if your child has applied for university in the United Kingdom. Please see the information below and if you have any questions, please email Catherine Schofield ([email protected]).

Y13 HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESULTS DAY

Congratulations to the Y13s who have received offers from a range of excellent universities.

For those students whose offers are conditional, results day can be a busy time and they need to be well prepared for the possible outcomes.

This year Results Day will be Thursday, August 15th

1. First of all, make sure that the university knows how to contact you on Results Day and that you are available to speak to them if necessary.
UCAS applicants will need to update TRACK:
  • Postal Address
  • Phone Number
  • Name of a person nominated to speak on your behalf if you are not available.

      2.    What happens when the results come out? – “Confirmation
  • For universities outside the UK, you may need to send a copy of your Statement of Results to them directly and should check this.
  • UK universities will update TRACK and you will be able to check this from 08.00.
If you have narrowly missed out on the required grades a university may call to offer you a place on another course.

      3. “Clearing
This is a system through which UK universities fill any places they still
have on their courses. Students may use this if they do not reach the grades required for their FIRM OR INSURANCE choice.

Students will be notified by TRACK which will say “you are in Clearing” or “Clearing has started”.
TRACK will give you a “Clearing” number.
If nothing happens at first, it may be because one of your universities is still considering you and it would be best to call the university and check.

For students who will be in Hong Kong for their results and would like to access “Clearing”, the British Council will hold an event at Kellett on August 15th from 15.00 to 18.00. They will be able to deal directly with the universities at this event and have been sent details by email.

Students not in Hong Kong may use the UCAS search tool to find a suitable vacancy. They can then add their choice in TRACK.

Before accepting any vacancies, it would be wise to contact more than one university directly in order to find the best place possible.

A useful site to check how to use TRACK on results day:

Y13 students are welcome to contact Ms. Schofield directly if they have any questions about the “Confirmation and Clearing” process.

In the meantime all good wishes for the best possible results.
