RWI Parent Information Letter

Monday 19th August

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Early Years 2! This is a letter to inform you about your child’s reading in EY2. Your child will receive four reading books each week: one RWI book, two home readers and one library book.

RWI

Our Read Write Inc. (RWI) literacy program began today. Each child has been placed in their group according to assessment data collected from year 1. If you child is new to DBIS they have been assessed accordingly.  Your child may be working with either an Inclusion teacher, an educational assistant or an Early Year 2 teacher in their RWI group. All staff who teach RWI have been thoroughly trained and certified in delivering the RWI programme.

Your child’s RWI book will be sent home each week starting from week commencing 26th August (the day your child receives their RWI book will depend on their group. If your child is reading a green, purple or pink book this will come home every 3 days. If they are reading a yellow, blue or grey book it will come home on a Friday). Please share this book together at home.  As the texts are quite short, it is always a good idea to have more than one read to encourage fluency and expression.  You can also work on comprehension through questioning, and retell. Please return the book to school in your child’s reading folder the following day.

If at any time you would like to know how well your child is progressing in her/his RWI group, please feel free to make an appointment with their class teacher.

We look forward to a great year with you and your child.

Kind Regards,

The Early Year 2 Team
