Updated information about 2022–23 ECA arrangements

Dear Parent

We are writing to update everyone on the latest Education Bureau (EdB) requirements regarding student participation in extracurricular activities (ECAs).

We are very pleased that we will be able to offer ECAs as planned, starting Tuesday 13th September. The requirements for ECAs at which students wear masks have not changed, and all students are still eligible to participate in these. For activities that do require masks to be taken off, in particular sports and musical activities, new rules will come into effect from Saturday 1st October.

Current rules for student involvement in ECAs that require masks to be removed (valid until Friday 30th September).

Student Age 1 dose or none 2 doses or more
Under 5 No No
5-11 No Yes
12-17 No Yes
18+ No Yes

Please note that a COVID-19 infection that has been formally reported to the Centre for Health Protection and the school counts as one dose. All vaccine doses received before a formally reported COVID-19 infection will be taken into account, regardless of the interval between vaccination and infection.

The list of mask-on and mask-off activities for Term 1 can be found HERE. Please note that over 70% of ECAs offered in Term 1 are mask-on activities so there are lots of options available for all students.

If you have not yet completed the form in SchoolsBuddy to indicate the ECAs your child would like to be involved in, please do so on or before Monday 5th September 2022*.

The school will inform you if your child is unable to take part in a requested ECA based on the current information we have about their vaccination status. If your child’s vaccination status has changed since you last notified us, please complete the form HERE to update us.

We appreciate that some students may not meet the EdB requirements for participation in mask-off activities straight away but may become eligible later in the term if their vaccination status changes. If this is the case, please record their requests in SchoolsBuddy now so that we can add them to the ECA(s) once it is possible for them to start, if there is space available at the time.

Please find below our planned timetable for ECAs in Term 1 of the 2022–23 school year.
