Welcome Back – From Year 11 YGL

Dear Parents,

I would like to start by saying welcome back to our returning families & a warm welcome to our new families.  I hope you have all had a wonderful summer & that students are well rested & ready for the exciting but challenging year ahead!

Firstly, I would like to congratulate all parents on their support for students through the Year 10 Mock Exams.  Across the Year Group results were pleasing & mainly in line with expected Target Grades for that point in GCSE study.  Students are clearly working hard both inside & outside of lessons to achieve their best & I’m very proud of them. Although some students may have been disappointed with individual subjects grades it’s important that we remind them that Year 10 Mocks are both an opportunity to practice exam technique as well as learn from revision techniques to improve them in the future.

There has been a staffing change to our Year Group team this year with Mrs Smal replacing Mr Lemon as Tutor for Storm.  I’m sure many of you would like to extend thanks to Mr Lemon for his work with students since he joined the team as he moves to focus more of his time on the Head of Secondary PE role from now on.  Mrs Smal brings an enormous amount of expertise with guiding Year 11s through their GCSEs having been Tutor for a number of past Year 11 classes, I am certainly appreciative to have her experience on the team.

As we move into the final year of GCSE study all students will face both successes and challenges for which they will need praise, guidance & support in various ways.  As a year team and a YGL we have always appreciated the fantastic support from parents in ensuring that the year group thrive, this year it is especially important that students understand the significance of attendance & punctuality, home learning & revision & organisation and I look forward to your continued support in these areas in the coming weeks & months as we all look to help students achieve their best.

It only leaves me to say how proud I am to be YGL for this current cohort of young people who have approached their first year of GCSE studies with maturity & enthusiasm & I look forward to watching them grow, develop & learn as we approach the end of their GCSE studies.

If you have any questions, queries or concerns please feel free to email me at any point to arrange a meeting.

Yours Sincerely

Emma Cerrone
