Welcome Back to Year 5!

Dear Year 5 Parents,

We are thrilled to finally be able to welcome you back to school tomorrow, for the final few weeks of Term 3. Of course, although we wish that we could have had longer with your wonderful children, we are overjoyed that we will have at least some closure and time with them, before sending them off to Year 6. The Year 5 teachers and educational assistants will do everything we can do ensure that these final weeks are as fun-filled and enjoyable as possible for the children.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for the support you have given us as a school and also the huge amounts of time and patience that you have dedicated to your child’s online home learning during the school closure. Your support has been invaluable and we have been continually impressed and amazed by the quality of home learning that we have seen in Year 5.

Over the next few weeks, we will be reading Why the Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo together in English and also looking at elements of our Show Discovery unit, where the children will have the opportunity to look at the concepts of relationships, performance, production and meaning. In maths, we will be drawing circles with compasses and measuring angles with protractors. We will also begin decimals, fractions and percentages and revise the four operations before the end of the year too. We will also create as many opportunities for writing as we can in an effort to prepare the children for Year 6. However, our main priority will be the health and safety as well as the wellbeing of your children.

Finally, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the return to school, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards

Year 5 Teachers and Educational Assistants
