Welcome Back Year 6

Dear parents,

We are delighted to welcome Year 6 back to DBIS after the school closures. It will be wonderful to have students on campus again and the Year 6 Team will be ensuring that these final five weeks in Primary at DBIS are as enjoyable as possible for the students.

Thank you again for all of your time and patience during the school closures. Your support has been invaluable to ourselves and the students and we have been absolutely blown away by the quality of work from Year 6 during this time and their resilience and adaptability when facing new challenges.

Over the next 5 weeks, we will of course be following the Year 6 Curriculum. We will be continuing our learning with the STEAM Fair, looking at what they have completed so far at home and where their enquiries are now leading them. We are also starting off this week with some creative writing based around a book published by Katherine Rundell, the Book of Hopes. In Maths we will be focusing on shape to begin with, an area we haven’t yet covered.

Online home learning will be continuing during the remaining five weeks of school. We will continue to provide daily notes by 5:00 pm on the Google Classroom with explanations of the tasks set. Google Meet sessions will also continue at 9:00 am and 2:30 am. These will be run by Mrs Barnett, our Year 6 Educational Assistant and she will be there to support the students with home learning and answer any questions. The link for this Google Meet can be found on the Google Classroom → Classwork →  Video Communication. We will provide feedback, although it will not be as immediate as it has been. What happens in the classroom cannot transfer exactly to online learning, however, I can assure you that the content and concepts covered will be the same and students will not be missing out.

Our main priority will be the health and safety as well as the wellbeing of all the children. We will be focusing on student wellbeing through a variety of lessons and activities and will ensure that students are aware of the procedures in place in school and feel comfortable with the new normal routine.

Regarding the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony, we are looking at a variety of possibilities in line with current restrictions. As soon as we have more details, we will let you know.

We understand that this is an unusual time and if you have any questions or concerns regarding the return to school, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We look forward to seeing you again.

Many thanks,

Team 6
