Welcome to Nursery 2022

Dear Nursery Families,

We are extremely excited to welcome you to DBIS Nursery for a year filled with awe, wonder and the magic of childhood!

As your child starts the staggered start process at Nursery, we will begin our unit of Discovery, ‘New Beginnings’. This is a time for your child to transition into school life, learning everyday routines and expectations. We will then begin our main unit of Discovery, ‘How do we play?’ We will explore how interactions during play can lead to developing relationships, a sense of self and new understanding.

Chatter Tubes:

We are looking forward to learning more about each child through their Chatter Tube. Please bring in your child’s Chatter Tube the week beginning 25th August during your child’s staggered start session.

Meet the Team

The Nursery Team is led by Emma Chambers, who is Year Group Leader for Nursery and Reception. Nursery consists of two classroom teachers and three educational assistants (EA). Your child has been allocated a class and will spend a lot of time with their class teacher and EA. In addition, we recognise the importance of children building relationships with those across the year group, and there will be lots of times throughout the week where the Nursery cohort will be learning together. We are a dedicated team who wish to ensure your child has the best start to their learning journey.

Initial Parent–Teacher Conferences (PTCs):

Your first Nursery Parent–Teacher Conference will take place on either Thursday 25th or Friday 26th August. You will have the option of either meeting in person or online via Google Meet. This will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s class teacher and share any useful information you have about your child. If you haven’t signed up, please do so via this link. A Google Meet link will be communicated to you for joining the meeting upon booking the PTC.

Class Parents

Class parents play an important role in Discovery Bay International School’s community and culture. This role greatly benefits everyone within a class, assisting the teacher in a range of ways throughout the year, such as welcoming new families and farewells to friends who are leaving. Class parents are parent volunteers who take on the role in the early weeks of each new school year. This role is not limited to one person, and ideally, each class should have two class parents. If you are interested in taking on this role, please let your class teacher know. The class teachers truly appreciate the support we receive from our class parents throughout the year.

Drop Off and Pick Up Time and Parent ID Cards

The end of the day is an exciting time; however, it can be a very busy time too. Our prime concern is to ensure every child gets collected by the right adult and returns home safely and happily. Therefore, we have a system that must be adhered to.

Please inform your child’s class teacher of three named adults who might collect your child. Please ensure all of these adults have a DBIS ID photo card. If you have not registered for these, please contact [email protected] to register.

Further information relating to DBIS ID photo cards and dismissal procedures can be found in the class letters.

Class Welcome Letters:

Attached you will find personalised Nursery Welcome Letters for each class, which include important information about Nursery school life.

Nursery Parent Orientation

A reminder that the Nursery Parent Orientation will take place on Wednesday 24th August at 9am in the dining hall at the Early Years campus. You will need to sign into the campus using the Leave Home Safe App and show proof of your vaccination status. A reminder that the orientation is for parents only and we cannot accommodate children on this date.

It is a very exciting time of year for all of us, and the Nursery Team is really looking forward to getting to know our Nursery families. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to working in partnership with you.

Kind regards,

Emma Chambers and The Nursery Team
