Welcome to Term 2 in Year 5

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We hope you and your children had a wonderful and restful break together after an action-packed Term 1 learning about ‘Full Power’ and ‘Our Hong Kong’.

We are now embarking on Term 2, which looks set to be as equally busy and fun filled as the last term.

For the first two weeks up to half term, Year 5 will continue with the ‘Our Hong Kong’ unit, focusing on learning about the unique geography of Hong Kong, designing new living spaces for its residents and writing a virtual travel guide. After the Chinese New Year break, we will start the new Discovery unit ‘Interstellar’, learning about space exploration, the planets, stars and forces.

In Discovery this term, the children will be addressing the questions: What is our place in the universe? What inspires space exploration? How might humans need to adapt to survive living on a new planet? In line with this, in English, we will look at the book Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce to inspire our writing and reading.

For further details regarding the Interstellar Discovery unit, as well as an overview of the whole curriculum for this term, please read the Term 2 Parent Overview when it is shared on the Hub. This overview provides a summary of what your child will be learning this term.

Please ensure you continue to discuss your child’s learning with them. Much of their work is recorded within their Google Drive, Google Classroom and on Seesaw, and the children are always so delighted when you like or comment on their learning.

The Primary Student Councillors will be ‘Pointing out the Positives’ each week, and they would love your help in supporting children wearing the correct uniform to school. For more information, please see the additional Hub notice that went out before Christmas or check the school website for the uniform policy.
