Year 4 Camp Information and Permission Form

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please read carefully the following information regarding the upcoming Year 4 camp. We are highly excited by this, as it is the first time in several years that we have been able to run a camp for our students. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Parent Information Evening earlier this week. Please find HERE the slides that were shared.

Dates and Location

The children will be staying in dormitories, eight children per room, and they will be able to select three children that they would like to stay with. Although we cannot guarantee that they will get to share a room with all three of them, we can guarantee that they will be able to stay with at least one. The two-night camp will take place from Monday 27th March to Wednesday 29th of March in Mui Wo.

Activities

During the camp, we will be taking part in an action-packed programme of incredible activities. Part of the itinerary will include the following activities: canyoning, flag-pole building, orienteering and beach catapult building, as well as other team-building games.

Food

All breakfast, lunch and dinner meals will be provided for the children. Children may pack some healthy snacks to bring along to the camp too, but please ensure these are nut free as we have some students with severe nut allergies within our student body. If your child has any food allergies or restrictions that the school isn’t already aware of, please contact your child’s class teacher immediately to discuss this.

Transport arrangements

A private ferry will transport the children from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo, and we will be meeting at 8.15am on Monday morning at the Kai To ferry pier in Discovery Bay. We will return to DB on Wednesday 29th of March and should arrive back in Discovery Bay at around 4.35pm at the same location that we departed from. Please arrive on time for both the departure and the return. Your child or children will need a backpack and a small piece of luggage. They must be able to carry the luggage themselves as we will be walking to the dormitories when we arrive.

COVID-19 regulations, vaccine pass and masks

We are now at a point where vaccine passes and QR code admission are no longer required; however, at this time, there is still a mask mandate in force, as instructed by the EdB. Therefore, your child will need to wear a mask on the ferry and will need to bring enough spares along for the three days.

In the event of a child testing positive for COVID-19 while at the campsite, parents will be informed straight away and the child will be accompanied by a member of staff back to DB to be collected by parents.

Cost

The total cost of the camp will be HK$4,000. This includes all transport, accommodation, activities, 2x breakfasts, 2x lunches and 2x dinners.

Please settle your payment on or before Monday 27th February 2023. Payment can be made in the form of a cheque or bank transfer to our HSBC A/C #111-459624-001. If you choose a bank transfer, please can you include in the ‘Remark’ section:

  • Your child’s class
  • Your child’s name

After the payment deadline, please kindly email [email protected] with your bank confirmation and student name for our records.

Permission

Please complete the attached JotForm to give your child permission to attend the camp by the 27th of February.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

Camps have always been such an integral part of our Experiential Curriculum at DBIS as they provide children with an opportunity to gain more independence, create deeper bonds with friends and build self-esteem and confidence as well as have a great deal of fun. We are very much looking forward to taking your child on their much-anticipated first DBIS camp!

Kind regards,

The Year 4 Team
