Discovery Learning to Learn

The students have finally reached the top of the Primary School. We will be discussing how the students will rise to the challenges that Year 6 will present and how their choices reflect the values of DBIS. How will the students be effective learners, positive role models and responsible leaders?

Why Do People Migrate?

We will be considering the following questions with the students:

What makes people want to move from one place to another? What is their motivation for migration – is it their choice or has it been forced upon them? Have you ever moved from one place to another? Have you ever considered how different your life would be if you hadn’t moved or perhaps did move to another place?

In this unit students will explore the many factors that motivate people to migrate as well as the challenges they may face.

Learning for Life We will be revisiting all the DBIS Personal Goals; Adaptability, Resilience, Co- operation, Respect, Thoughtfulness, Enquiry, Morality and Communication. These will be discussed through our ‘Learning for Life’ program and during all lessons.

Additionally, the children will have the opportunity to develop the learner skills in their Discovery lessons. These are; Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Self-management and Research. The children will have time to reflect on their learning in these areas and share this via Seesaw.
