Y6 Transition to DBIS Secondary School

Dear Year 6 Families,

The transition to secondary school is a big step in your child’s educational journey and we are thrilled that so many of you have chosen to continue your child’s education at DBIS.

Our secondary team is working closely with Year 6 colleagues to ensure your child feels supported and excited about their transition to secondary. This includes ensuring students are grouped in learning environments that are balanced and provide the opportunity to build successful relationships with existing and new friends.

During Term 3 there will be a number of opportunities to learn about secondary school, both through the Discovery Unit in Year 6 classrooms, but also through transition events taking place. These include transition mornings, tours of the school, peer-to-peer mentoring and targeted well-being support for small groups of students. Where necessary, we will also be arranging individual parent meetings to discuss how we can best support your child through this process. There will be a Parent Transition Information Evening which we hope will address any queries you may have and provide an opportunity to ask questions.

Key dates

  • Transition Mornings: Tuesday 15th – Friday 18th June,
  • Parent Transition Information Evening: Thursday 17th June, 6 pm – 6.45 pm (online)

I look forward to meeting with you all at the Parent Transition Information Evening in June.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,

Morag Armstrong

Head of Year 7
