Year 10 – Parent information evening and Google Guardian

Year 10 Parent information evening and Google Guardian

Dear parents and guardians,

I would like to start by thanking you all for your patience and support with making this second phase of online learning a success. I’m really pleased to report that many teachers have remarked on what a positive start Year 10 students have made to their academic courses this year.

By now, you should have been granted access to the ‘Google Guardian’ sections of your child’s online learning classrooms. In short, this allows you to:

  • View outstanding assignments if your child has missed deadlines
  • View upcoming assignments that are due
  • View announcements, activities and questions recently posted by teachers

The Google Guardian feature will not allow you to review:

  • Student work – student work and resources can only be viewed by the student and teacher.
  • Marks – marks for work submitted on the Google Classroom can only be viewed by the student and teacher.

Of course, we promote the ethos that Year 10 students are organised and independent learners, who take charge of managing their workload by themselves. The purpose of Google Guardian is to allow parents an oversight of their child’s learning, and to provide extra support at home if it is needed.

Please contact your child’s tutor for further information regarding Google Guardian.

Looking ahead to the near future, I would like to remind you of some important calendar events that are fast approaching:

  • Monday 21st September: Parent information evening with Head of Year, running from 18:30 to 19:30.

This will give you some feedback on the Year 10 transition into their academic courses, what to expect from the transition reports, and some tips on how to support your children from home. I will hopefully be able to advise you on the protocol for the potential return of Year 10 to on-site lessons. There will also be time allotted at the end of the information evening to answer any questions that you may have at this point.

  • Wednesday 23rd September: Transition reports published

If you have any pressing questions, or would like anything to be added to the agenda for the information evening on Monday 21st, please do let me know by emailing me in advance at: [email protected].

Best wishes,

Mr Nicholas Moore

Head of Year 10
