Year 3 Term 3 Welcome Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! We hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing Easter break. It’s hard to believe that the academic year is almost over but rest assured we have an exciting term ahead, packed full of exciting learning opportunities for your children so they can finish Year 3 on a high!

Please follow this link – LINK – to the Parent Curriculum Overview which outlines what your child will be learning in each curriculum area this term as well as key dates. This can also be found on the DBIS Parent Hub.

We would like to draw particular attention to our open morning and Onwards and Upwards ceremony on Thursday 20th June from 8:30-9:15 am. Other highlights we have to look forward to this term are Book Week, Creative Arts Week and of course Y1-5 transition morning on Friday the 21st of June.

Term 3 Homework

Home learning remains mostly the same this term with the exception of spelling. Thank you for your support so far this year with the home learning.

The introduction of the RWI spelling programme this year has been very successful in increasing our students' understanding of spelling rules. We would now like to add Spellodrome to the list of Year 3 homework to help support recall of the Year 3 Common Exception Words. Spellodrome homework will be added on Mondays and mini spelling tests will be held on Friday. Spelling lists on Spellodrome will be changed as and when individual students demonstrate sufficient recall of their current list. Spellodrome can be accessed through the google classroom and the password is the same at the Mathletics password. Students can practise their spelling on Spellodrome as and when they like but we recommend a minimum of 20 minutes a week.

Uniform
The new term brings warmer weather. We kindly remind you that students are required to wear correct DBIS uniform including a DBIS hat.

Class Mixing

During Term 3, the teachers and students will be involved with the class mixing process to create the new classes for the next academic year 2019-20. This is a very careful process that involves a great deal of thought and discussion in order to ensure the children are placed effectively. When creating the new classes, a number of considerations form part of the process including gender, student learning needs and teachers' professional knowledge of the students themselves. In addition, we involve the students in this process by asking them to select 4 friends from across the year group who they feel they work well with and would be happy to be in a class with the following year. We consider their friendship choices to be equally weighted when placing the children.

As a school, we commit to ensuring children are placed with at least one friend from their list. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the children are placed with a friend, we have to appreciate that family circumstances change and some children may leave unexpectedly at the end of the school year. We therefore cannot guarantee that your child will be placed with a friend from their list if the child they were originally placed with leaves the school. As always, we kindly remind you that we do not accept requests for teachers and carefully consider which teacher each child is placed with as part of the class mixing process. Should you have any questions regarding the placement of children, we kindly ask that these are directed to a member of the Primary Leadership Team.

As always if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning please do not hesitate to write a note in your child’s diary or make an appointment to see their class teacher.

We look forward to seeing the children today to start what promises to be another exciting term!

Kind regards,

Year 3 Team
