Seesaw Learning Portfolios

Dear Parents,

We are pleased to inform you that we will continue to use Seesaw in the Early Years and Primary school to document student learning at DBIS.

For those of you that are new to DBIS and not familiar with this platform, Seesaw is a secure online system that is used to create a digital portfolio of your child’s learning journey at DBIS. Your child’s teacher will be able to share observations with you and your child will also use Seesaw to independently capture their own learning moments. Seesaw posts will include photos, videos and written comments. They will be recorded regularly and you will be able to set notifications on your device to inform you when a new post has been added.

Only you and those you give permission to, for example, grandparents, will be able to view your child’s learning portfolio. At times, you will see other children in observations, particularly when they have been working collaboratively and the post has been shared in multiple journals. To ensure the appropriate safety measures are in place for all the children, we trust that you understand that you should not take the photographs from Seesaw to use on any social media sites, particularly where other pupils appear in photographs.

Seesaw has two different apps. As a parent, if you would like to follow your child’s learning journey, or have access to directly message your child’s class teachers, you will need to download the Seesaw Family app to your own device. If you were using our Seesaw Family app last year, you will not need to do anything new to continue to follow your child’s journal. If you are new to the school, you will have received an email from Seesaw with instructions on how to connect to your child’s portfolio. This email will have been sent to the same email address you shared with school for communication purposes. If you did not receive this email or need further support, please contact the IT department directly ([email protected]). Please note, you will need to use the same email address that you received the invite to set up your Seesaw Family app.

The Seesaw Class app is used mainly in school. While school is in normal operation, there is no requirement to use this app from home, but students are very welcome to sign into this app using their DBIS student Google account should they wish to upload special learning moments from home. Should the school close for any reason, the Seesaw Class app will be used to share learning activities with our younger students, so it may be useful for your child to practise signing in to this app from time to time. If your child is not able to access the Seesaw Class app, please do contact me directly ([email protected]).

We are thoroughly looking forward to compiling your child’s learning journey this year and sharing lots of special moments with you.

Kind regards,

Angela Moriarty
