Dear New DBIS Families
Welcome to DBIS. We are aware that it is especially hard joining a new school in the current circumstances and we wanted to reach out to give new parents the opportunity for an online catch up to enable you to ask questions and give feedback.
We are hosting a New DBIS Parent Online Coffee Morning on Wednesday 20th January at 9:30am. Our primary focus will be on ensuring that you are up to speed with our communication channels and to answer any technical questions.
No nuts are permitted on the school site and on school related off-site activities such as field trips and sports events. No nut policies include nut containing products such as pesto, Nutella and other nut spreads, mooncakes and fruit and nut bars. Please help keep DBIS safe for all our students and staff.
There are students and staff with life threatening nut allergies within our school body. To create a safe environment, no nuts or nut products are to be brought onsite or to school related activities.

SPOT Children’s Therapy Centre’s Clare Watt, Occupational Therapist and DBIS parent will be hosting a lunch-time Zoom talk on Thursday 2nd December. Kathleen Lee, one of the centre’s counsellors, will join Clare to reflect on the Penny Bay experience and support mental wellness as families move forward.
I am sure many of you are aware of the popular Netflix series Squid Game. You may also know that the popular children’s gaming platform, Roblox has many games on it that are associated with the Squid Game series.
Building from the work that our students did last week, we spoke with our Year 7 students about the popular Netflix series Squid Game. In line with our digital wellbeing discussions, we discussed the age rating associated with this series and explained to the students, as we regularly do, that age ratings exist for multiple reasons.
I am sure many of you are aware of the popular Netflix series Squid Game. A number of our younger Secondary students have been talking about this series in more detail than we would normally expect, especially as Squid Game carries an age restriction of 16+.
We are excited to announce that face-to-face instrumental lessons are back on!
Lessons will start on 23rd August, with a total of 15 lessons for this term 1.

Building on from last year, students will, in the first half-term, be setting SMART targets for each of their subjects after a conversation with their teachers. The accountability of goal setting encourages students to look back over their previous successes and failures, evaluating areas they need to improve.
We would like to remind our parent community to be extra vigilant with monitoring student use of social media and social networking apps whilst learning from home.
