I am writing to make you aware that the application process for Year 7 places for the 2020/21 academic year has now started. At this time, we are proposing to open four Year 7 classes accommodating a total of 100 students. Please find enclosed:

Dear Parents

The timeframe for the Year 7 application process for current Year 6 students is as follows:

2 September 2019  – Enrolment information is sent to Year 6 parents via email and parent HUB.
4 September 2019 – Application Form for Year 7 will become live at 9am
20 September 2019 – Deadline for the receipt of Year 7 – 2020/21 applications.
27 September 2019 – Offer of places for 100 students sent to parents.
14 October 2019 – Deadline for the signed acceptance of an offer of Year 7 placement 2020/21 and deposit payment of HK$32,000.
4 November 2019 – The school reserves the option to open up Year 7 enrolment to families outside of DBIS should spaces continue to be available.

Please also make a note of the Transition to Secondary evening (for current Year 6 parents), scheduled on Tuesday 29 October at 6:30pm in the Globe Theatre.

Class Suspension by the Hong Kong Education Bureau

Due to the situation regarding the Coronavirus, the Hong Kong Government and the Education Bureau have announced that all classes are suspended until Monday 2 March 2020. They have requested that all students do not attend school until this date. The school will remain open for all staff and for any students who would be otherwise unsupervised at home. We would ask that parents only bring their children to school if there is no one available to look after them.

Members of our Peripatetic Faculty have been sharing their considerable gifts by performing in Primary and Secondary assemblies throughout the term and at Carols on the Pitch. The response from the children has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic with many expressing an interest in learning an instrument.  We currently have teachers of clarinet, flute, saxophone, piano, strings, brass (including a trombone specialist from the HK Philharmonic), guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, voice  and drums.

EY1 Junk Modelling

Over the course of the year, we would like to build a ‘junk modelling’ resource cupboard for the children to use within their learning and during play times. 

EY1 Magic Words Program

In EY1 we follow a high frequency word programme called ‘Magic 100 Words’.  There are 100 frequently occurring words in the English language that make up, on average, half of the words found in reading and writing.  The Magic 100 Words literacy activities and games promote instant recognition of these words. Mastering half the words used in reading and writing makes the task of reading and writing ‘magically’ easier.

EY1 Theatre Trip

Dear Parents and Carers, 

We’d like to invite the EY1 children to the Performance of ‘The Snail and the Whale’. The performance is on Friday 7th February at 12pm at the Hong Academy for Performing Arts. The children are to arrive at school at normal time and buses will depart school at 10am. The viewing of this performance is a great opportunity for the students to see a narrative on stage.

As always the last lesson on Friday is suspended to allow for our Interhouse Carol Singing Competition and Hot Chocolates.  Our brilliant PTSA will supply the Hot Chocolate while our students provide the cheer with their wonderful renditions of Christmas Hits. Nursery Community Bus Trip

Dear Parents,

As a part of our ‘Sharing the Planet’ enquiry unit, the children will be exploring where they live in the world. To support our learning about our community, the Nursery classes will be going on a bus journey with their class friends around Discovery Bay. On the journey, the children will have the opportunity to show their friends where they live and special places around Discovery Bay. The bus journey will be around thirty minutes and we aim to pass by as many of the children’s homes as possible.

Dear Parents

You are invited to join us for a Funky Fingers Stay and Play session in your child’s classroom during the week commencing 17th February 2020. This will give you the opportunity to experience how we support the children’s development of gross and fine motor skills to gain strength and confidence in using their body.
