DBIS Outdoor Learning Week! 1st to 5th November

Dear Parents,

Next week, DBIS is hosting Outdoor Learning Week 2021–22!

Following the interruptions that we have had during the last couple of years, DBIS has given greater focus to re-engaging the students with our local environment through outdoor and experiential learning. Not only does this allow for greater stimulus for learning but it also supports our children’s wellbeing through more freedom of choice, challenging their Learner Profile attributes and heightening their appreciation of the stunning environment that we live in.

And what a wonderful start we have already made to the year! Being a key part of our School Action Plan for 2021–22, year groups have already enjoyed several activities linked to all areas of their curriculum learning. These include Year 3 building upon the students’ Early Years experiences with woodwork and Forest School sessions, whilst Year 4 have already recreated the body’s circulatory system on the DB main beach. Year 5 have visited the Science Museum and enjoyed the Learner Profile Olympic activities, whilst Year 6 visited the wetlands for their eco-system unit and have taken part in concept walks around DB.

But the experiential fun does not stop there as next week we celebrate and build upon these outdoor experiences even further.

Your child will be enjoying several activities including off-campus PE, Nature Appreciation hunts, Numbers in Nature maths fun, read stories outdoors, buddy class Rangoli art, and an exciting “signature activity” for each year group.

The week culminates with our school Diwali celebrations on Friday 5th November, where your child is invited to wear colourful clothes to mark this Festival of Light. After school on Friday, we also welcome back our first beach clean in two years as we link up with Plastic Free Seas to host the Community Coastal Clean-up at the North Plaza beach between 3.30–5.30pm. We would love to see you all there!

Any additional information (e.g. clothing requirements) will be shared with you via the class teacher.

Look out for lots of exciting updates and photographs on your child’s Seesaw class.

Kind regards,

Mr Haines
