Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We are thrilled to be able to welcome students back onto the school campus to embark upon the final term of the academic year face to face. We hope that you all had a restful Easter break and are ready for classrooms full of excitement and collaborative learning, which is the perfect start to our final term.
Celebrations of achievements in Term 2
Despite the restrictions, there was much to celebrate in Term 2:
FOBISIA Maths competition – Over this three-day competition period, students competed both individually and in groups. We are very proud that Killian Starsmore won 3rd place in the individual round, and the team of Sophie Thompson, William Ross and Mario Liang are also to be praised for their efforts and achievement. Thank you to Ms Prabhu for organising this competition for our students.
Race4Good – our team of Francesca Sigston, Sophie Thompson, Rachael Viju, Charlotte Eyre and Mindi Jayanetti did fabulously, coming up with creative and practical ways in which to uplift families and communities in Haiti. The work they have done means that they will literally be having a physical impact on the lives of these families and improving their standard of living. The girls won two rounds of the competition and then, despite not winning in the final, the judges decided to take some of their ideas and implement them anyway. A tremendous amount of work was put into this and we are so proud of their efforts, which no doubt will also have had a great impact on the students involved. A big thank you also to Mr Moore, who coached the students through the competition.
FOBISIA Languages Championship 2022 – well done to Mario Liang for achieving the Credit Award in this international competition.
1:1 Tutoring
1:1 tutoring will continue starting on Monday 25th April, and your child’s tutor will inform them when to attend. This provides an opportunity for the tutor to discuss any difficulties, provide support or just get to know their tutees better.
House Events
With the level of restrictions that have been in place, we have had to get creative with the House events. A number of competitions took place last term on a Wednesday morning and will continue this term, with our Year 10 Shadow House Captains stepping in to help run these once the Year 11 House Captains have started study leave. We hope that over the coming months, we can develop more House Event opportunities for all students.
Lunch arrangements
To continue to accommodate the EdB’s requirements regarding students’ eating patterns at lunchtime, we will have to return to having two sittings, with set year groups having their lunch at certain times. There will, however, be some changes to our previous arrangements.
The arrangements for lunch will be as follows:
- The first lunchtime sitting will be for students in Years 7, 9 and 10 and will run from 1.30pm to 1.50pm.
- Year 10 students will be eating in the Gym.
Eating bubbles will be kept as small as possible. The canteen will be open for students who order meals. Unfortunately we cannot, at this time, accept hot food deliveries from home.
Uniform/hair reminder
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all students of the expectations of uniform. Particular reminders are that students have plain black school shoes and keep their hair a natural colour. False nails are also not permitted.
Exams/Mock exams
Our Year 10 mock/end-of-year exams are scheduled to take place from Tuesday 31st May to Friday 10th June. Students will follow an exam timetable for this period and will be excused from their regular lessons. Please note that these exams are simply for students to have a practise with these formalised assessments and for teachers to check understanding; they do not form a part of the students’ IGCSE grades or BTEC achievements. More information will be released with regard to these exams in the coming weeks, but students should speak to individual class teachers concerning exam content and format.
