Dear Year 6 Parents and Guardians,
Firstly, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone joining the DBIS Secondary community this August. I am writing to share some upcoming events related to our Year 6 to 7 transition programme. Next week, we will start the process by meeting with Year 6 for a transition assembly. This first meet and greet is designed to discuss the upcoming changes and to share some early strategies for students to manage their transition. I will also challenge Year 6 students to complete a ‘transition passport’ that shares their feelings and questions regarding the step up to Secondary.Â
The second transition event will happen on Wednesday 22nd May, when students will join us for a two-hour orientation morning on campus. Students will complete a cycle of activities and will build on the conversations held in the initial assembly.Â
The final and most important transition event will occur in June, with the main ‘transition day’ happening on Tuesday 11th June. I will write to you all again prior to 11th June to discuss the aims and details of this event.Â
We believe that supporting all of our Year 6 students, regardless of their future school placements, is important and understand that some of our current Year 6 students will be joining Year 7 at other schools next academic year. Even though these students will be moving on to different Secondary Schools, the expectations and tips shared during our transition activities will still be beneficial as they prepare for the next chapter of their education and we have planned the DBIS based transition opportunities with these students in mind to help set them up for success.
What do we need from our Year 6 parents?Â
For those who will remain at DBIS next year, we understand that nobody knows your children better than you and have therefore decided to create a simple questionnaire for all Year 6 parents to help us better understand and get to know our Year 6 students before their August start. This is an opportunity for you to share what makes your children flourish and the potential challenges in academic, social or emotional contexts. Please complete this Google Form by the end of June so we can gather more information and share it with Year 7 teachers in August. Please ensure there is only one response per household.
