Primary International Sports Week

Dear Parents & Guardians,

I am delighted to inform you that Primary International Sports Week will be happening again this year! The week will run from Monday 11th to Friday 15th November.

The Primary PE team has designed an action-packed week of sporting activities, where every student will have the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, at times competitive, and socially involved in sport and play. Each year group will experience a morning and an afternoon of organised sporting activity on two separate occasions during the week. Here is an overview of the week’s programme:

Parent Involvement

Parents are invited to spectate our swimming galas. We ask that parents wear flip flops or come onto the poolside barefoot. We would also like to make you aware that there is limited shade, so you may want to wear a hat. In the event of poor weather, the swimming gala will be cancelled and run as a T-ball tournament on the pitch. If there is extreme weather, where students can not be outside, the event will be cancelled and parents will not be able to spectate. Please ensure that you RSVP to our event invitations, which will be sent out nearer the time, as this will help us to cater for spectators and manage numbers effectively.

The afternoon ‘International Sports Journeys’ and mornings are for students to try a range of sporting activities in a social setting. The journeys will take place at our Main school campus and will include tasters of sports and activities from all around the globe. Students will collect stamps and stickers for their ‘passports’ along the way, exposing them to new skills and activities and also giving them the opportunity to gain knowledge of the history of sport and how it has evolved globally. They will also gain an awareness of which sports are popular in, or unique to, different countries.

For these activities, we are looking for parent/community volunteers to come in and assist with/lead (with support) an international sports activity. If this is something that interests you, please get in touch with me at [email protected].

What to Wear

Students should wear a sports kit to school on the day of their international sports journey. This can be a team kit or a national replica kit from their home country, or students can simply wear their national or house colours. They must also wear socks and trainers on the day and bring their hat and water bottle.

For the swimming events, students should wear a sports kit to school and bring their school swimming kit, including swimming cap and goggles.

Shared Lunch/Food

On Friday 15th November, there will be a shared lunch in the classrooms. On this day, students are asked to bring in food to share that represents their home country. Please note when preparing the food that we are a nut-free school.

As part of the week’s programme, we also plan to raise awareness of sports nutrition for young people. In line with this, will be sharing a list of suggested healthy and high-energy snacks/lunch box items to try. We hope you will find this helpful for each day that your child is active, both in school and out of school.

EYFS

Further information will be shared regarding the EYFS international sports activities soon. These will be running the following week, from Monday 18th November to Friday 22nd November.

Please contact me if you have any questions about our Primary International Sports Week.
