Year 3 Light and Sound Unit: Hong Kong Circus Workshops

Dear Year 3 Families,

At the beginning of September, Year 3 students will immerse themselves in a world of light and sound.

In the Discovery unit Light and Sound’, the students will explore the components involved in designing a magical performance, inspired by the book Leon. They will develop their scientific inquiry skills to investigate how light travels, how shadows are made and how sound changes pitch. By understanding the science behind light and sound, they will then experiment with special effects to WOW an audience.

To launch this exciting unit, the students will have the opportunity to work with the Hong Kong Circus in a circus training workshop. The outstanding performers will lead bespoke circus skills training workshops for our Year 3 students on Monday 1st September and Tuesday 2nd September and provide them with performance skills to showcase in our Year 3 collaborative assembly on Friday 17th October (further details to follow).

The Hong Kong Circus performers will also demonstrate how to engage an audience by putting on a circus performance for all students.

The circus training workshop schedule will be as follows:

Monday 1st September:

  • Y3BW
  • Y3WS

Tuesday 2nd September

  • Y3GC
  • Y3RB

On these days, please can students come into school in a PE kit and trainers.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Best wishes,

The Year 3 Team
