Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce the full integration of Komodo, a comprehensive wellbeing platform, for all students from Year 1 to Year 13. This introduction marks a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment where every student can thrive.
This initiative follows a successful trial last academic year with our Year 5 and Year 9 students. Their participation provided invaluable feedback and demonstrated Komodo’s effectiveness in helping us better understand and support our students’ needs.
What is Komodo?
Komodo is a school-wide wellbeing solution designed to give us deeper insights into the emotional and social health of our students. By using Komodo, we can proactively address concerns and ensure no student is left behind.
Here’s a breakdown of the key features that will benefit your child:
Wellbeing Surveys
Komodo uses surveys, created by psychologists, to measure a wide range of wellbeing areas, including digital habits, sleep and psychological safety. These surveys give every student a confidential way to voice their thoughts and feelings. This helps us understand school-wide trends and focus on the areas that matter most to our community.
Powerful Analytics
The platform provides our staff with powerful analytics at the individual, cohort and school-wide levels. These insights allow us to identify specific areas where students may need support and to implement targeted strategies. This data-driven approach ensures that our wellbeing initiatives are both relevant and effective.
Intelligent Check-in System
Komodo’s check-in system helps us engage in meaningful conversations with students who need support. The platform can recommend check-ins for students who may be struggling, and students can also request a confidential check-in with a teacher whenever they need to talk. This ensures students have a safe and private way to ask for help.
Student Voice
Ensuring every student’s voice is heard is at the heart of Komodo. The platform encourages open communication between students and teachers through a confidential comment feed. This empowers students to share their needs, ask for clarification and feel validated, strengthening the trust between students and staff.
Komodo also offers our staff dedicated support, including training sessions and psychologist-created resources, to help us interpret data and develop the best intervention strategies. The platform integrates seamlessly with our existing school systems, making it secure and easy to use.
We believe that Komodo will be an essential tool in our commitment to a wellbeing-first approach. It will help us protect and improve the mental and emotional health of our students, ensuring DBIS remains a place where everyone can learn and thrive.
We look forward to partnering with you on this important journey.
Kind regards,
Jessica Hickling
