Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of a recent increase in influenza cases within our school community and the wider area.
Illnesses like colds and flu are spread from person to person via respiratory droplets. These droplets are spread by coughing, sneezing or by touching objects or people with contaminated hands. We know that some viruses and bacteria can live two hours or longer on surfaces such as hands, desks and doorknobs.
As a reminder, our school’s illness policy states that students who show symptoms of fever, diarrhoea and vomiting must be kept home. Students should not return to school until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, and have had no episodes of diarrhoea/vomiting for 24 hours.
Please be vigilant for the signs and symptoms of the flu in your children. Beyond a fever, your child should also stay home if they show any obvious signs of illness.
These can include:
- Fever or feeling feverish/chills;
- Sore throat;
- Cough;
- Runny or stuffy nose, that is severe or constant;
- Body aches and headaches;
- Malaise or tiredness;
- Vomiting and diarrhoea (more common in children).
Your quick action in keeping your child home when they are sick is the most effective way to prevent the spread of illness and protect everyone in our community.
If you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend school, or if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your support.
Kindly,
The Medical Team
