Year 5–8 & IGCSE Drama Students – Box House Theatre Company Visit

Box House Theatre Company Visit
29th–30th September

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are pleased to inform you that students in Years 5 to 8, and those studying IGCSE Drama, will be participating in a workshop with Box House Theatre Company, who will be visiting DBIS from 29th to 30th September.

Box House Theatre Company is an award-winning theatre company based in the UK. They use a unique style of theatre called ‘Platform Theatre’, which restricts actors to the confined space of a gym mat. This particular style is incredibly unique as the actors do not have any assistance from props, sets, costumes or sound. This means the actors only have their physical selves and their voices to tell a story. Here is a link to the theatre company’s website, if you would like further information on them.

During the visit from Box House Theatre Company, children in Years 5–8 will have the opportunity to watch a live professional theatre performance, as well as take part in a workshop using the Box House Theatre style with their teaching group.

Year 6 and Year 8 students will have their workshop on Monday. Students are encouraged to wear their house kit for the day.

Year 5 and Year 7 students will have their workshop on Tuesday. Students are encouraged to wear their house kit for the day.

IGCSE Drama students will watch a professional theatre performance and then complete two full-day intensive workshops with the professional artists. This process will support them in their IGCSE Drama course and they will complete a devised performance piece, which will be filmed and could be used as one of their final pieces of coursework. As you may be aware, this piece of coursework is worth 20% of their final IGCSE grade. IGCSE students can be in their normal school uniform.

This is a worthwhile opportunity for our students to work closely with professional artists and enjoy the fun and delight that comes with being part of a live Drama workshop and experience. We very much look forward to seeing the students in action as they step out of their comfort zones and take part.

Thank you in advance for your support. Please look out for photos after the event, and we hope that your child enjoys discussing the experience with you at home.

Kind regards,
Ms Laura Glanowski
Drama Teacher
