Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you and your children had a wonderful and restful break together after an action-packed Term 1 learning about ‘Brilliant Botany’.
We are now embarking on Term 2, which looks set to be equally as busy and fun-filled as the last term.
In Discovery this term, the children will be addressing the questions ‘what makes someone an artist?’ and ‘how can we explore different art forms to express our creativity?’ as part of our ‘Inspiring Artists’ unit. In line with this, in English, we will be looking at Colours Colours Everywhere, Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book, The Egg Box Dragon, Katie and the British Artists and Katie and the Sunflowers.
We will also start the unit ‘Fantastic Firsts’, where the children will be addressing the questions ‘what are some important ‘firsts’ in our lives and in history?’ and ‘how can we use our creativity to invent and innovate like the great inventors of the past?’ In line with this, in English, we will be looking at Leonora Bolt: Secret Inventor, See Inside Inventions and Just Like Rube Goldberg. Â
Please continue to discuss your child’s learning with them. You can see some examples of their recent schoolwork saved on Seesaw.
With regard to homework, we will be continuing with our regular system and schedule of:
- All spelling homework is sent home on a Friday, to be completed for the following Friday in the DBIS spellings books.
- Reading each night. Please read regularly with your child. Ask them questions about the texts they have read and make predictions about what may happen next. Make sure to record the amount of time spent reading each night so that we can award the correct number of iReads.
- As an optional extra, ‘NumBots’ login details can be found at the front of their reading diaries.

We look forward to welcoming you back to school very soon.
