DBIS Chinese New Year Celebration and Dress-up Day 2026

Dear DBIS community,

We are very excited to be celebrating the 2026 Chinese New Year. This year, we have prepared three days’ worth of events and activities that will take place across the EYFS and main campuses. Our daily timeline of events is below:

Date: Monday 9th / Tuesday 10th February

Event: Year 1 – Year 6 classes will enjoy a typical Chinese New Year temple fair, where they can participate in a variety of interactive, cultural activities.

Date: Wednesday 11th February

What to wear: EYFS students are encouraged to dress in red/gold/yellow clothing or traditional Chinese outfits.

Event: In the morning, the Fortune God will visit each class and give out 红包 (hóngbāo) to our FS-1 and FS-2 students. The children will then take part in a temple fair together with their families, followed by a traditional dragon dance and lion dance performance at our EYFS campus. Timings will be shared with families nearer the time.

Date: Friday 13th February

What to wear: Primary and Secondary students are encouraged to dress in traditional Chinese outfits or red/gold/yellow clothing.

Events:

  • A traditional teacher dragon dance will kick-start the day for Primary and Secondary students at our Main Campus.
  • Year 7 students will go on a trip to the CNY Flower Market.

Chinese New Year is our most important local festival, celebrating the start of the lunar calendar year. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the 1st day until the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. This year, the first day of the Chinese New Year is on Tuesday 17th February, initiating the Year of the Horse.

We wish everyone a year filled with joy and happiness!
