Learning For Life Lessons for Year 11 in Term 2.2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

DBIS is committed to supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our students as an essential part of their education. This is primarily delivered through our ‘Learning for Life’ (L4L) programme, which equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for making safe and informed choices, both during their school years and beyond.

Our RSE curriculum is designed according to the UK Department for Education (DfE) statutory guidance. This ensures that our content is evidence based, age appropriate and focused on the safety and dignity of all young people. Following the Chinese New Year break, Year 11 will begin a specific sequence of lessons tailored to their current age and stage of development.

The upcoming sequence will cover the following core areas:

  • Relationships: Focusing on consent and coercion, the importance of healthy relationship dynamics, and establishing clear personal boundaries.
  • Sexual Health & Safety: Fact-based lessons regarding contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the importance of safe and healthy intimacy. This also includes critical discussions on the impact of pornography on expectations and relationships.
  • Substance Use: Addressing the health and social risks associated with alcohol, excessive drinking and vaping.

Our goal is to provide a safe and respectful environment where students can develop the confidence to navigate these complex topics.

Should you require any further information about the RSE provision provided at DBIS, please reach out to me for further information.

Best regards,

Jessica Hickling
