Dear Parents
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as your son/daughter’s new form tutor for the remainder of the year. I will be taking over from Mrs. Tyrrell who will be stepping into the Head of Year 9 role while Ms. Hine is on maternity leave.
I am going into my 20th year of teaching in Hong Kong and have worked in various international schools as a Head of House and Head of Department, my previous position being with South Island School for 12 years. The past two years I have been focused on my PhD in Teacher/Student Wellbeing in International Schools.
I would like to share our schedule for activities for tutor period. Monday’s we will celebrate Stars of the Week and I will check and sign diaries which should have been checked by a parent. Tuesday’s will be news and current affairs, while students will need to have a reading book to bring along for silent reading on a Wednesday. Thursday is Gin Hong and Friday we will have student presentations. I am hoping individuals within the form will develop their presentation skills and confidence in these sessions.
Improving your child’s progress and attainment is my key role and I am looking forward to helping students develop their strengths and social and emotional skills. I will be encouraging students to approach me and talk about any successes they may have, or indeed any other issues or concerns that may be troubling them.
