Dear Parents,
This week, the UK Prime Minister announced new national restrictions for England. These include the closure of schools and the cancellation of most domestic exams for this coming Summer (May/June 2021 Series).
We are sure many of you are concerned about any potential impact this may have on the June 2021 exams, here in Hong Kong. As of writing, both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel have released statements reaffirming their commitment to running international examinations as originally scheduled, where it is safe to do so and under the guidance of local authorities.
Courses that are UK-based, ‘domestic’ GCSEs/A-Levels (a small proportion of our respective I/GCSE and A-Level offering, which we have listed below), appear to be affected at this stage. We are yet to receive clarity on the degree to which this will impact our students.
As part of our affiliation with the FOBISIA Organisation (Federation of British International Schools in Asia), we have been assured that ongoing efforts are being made to acquire timely and accurate information about these examinations. The Rt Hon Secretary of State for Education, Mr. Gavin Williamson has already received correspondence from the FOBISIA organization to this effect.
Once we have official confirmation from external agencies and the examination boards, along with certainty surrounding grade awarding procedures, we will reach out to those affected and work to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.
Our priority continues to be to keep our students safe and make sure that they can progress with their education. We will continue to monitor this situation closely. We will endeavor to inform you of any changes in a fair and timely manner.
