Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
We are excited to announce that Friday 19th September 2025 is Book Day! This year our theme is ‘Book: Unleash the Time Traveller in You.‘
Books have the incredible ability to transport us through time and space. They can send us into the past or allow us to glimpse into potential futures. They are a portal to anywhere and everywhere! Books allow readers to connect with characters and their experiences, regardless of time or culture. Our theme this year is also a quiet nod to plans for another DBIS time capsule later this year.
In the lead up to Book Day, the Library and English teams will be hosting a range of activities and competitions for students supported by our wonderful Prefects and Subject Ambassadors . You can find a calendar of events and details on the Book Day website!
Whole-school events:
Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th September – Fun to Read Book Fair
We are thrilled to once more be partnering with the book outlet ‘Fun to Read’. Students will have the opportunity to shop for new books during the day, and parents are most welcome to visit the book fair from 3.10pm – 4pm both days. ‘Fun to Read’ accepts a host of payment options, including Octopus, cash and credit card. We suggest students come with credit on their Octopus cards and clear guidance on how much they are allowed to spend. As a guide, the latest Dog Man book retails for HK$79, while the this year’s Guinness World Records can be purchased for HK$199.
Friday 19th September – Book Dress-up Day
Students of EYFS, Primary and Secondary are invited to come dressed as their favourite literary character, author, illustrator or book for a HK$20 donation to the library’s chosen charity, Bring Me A Book Hong Kong, a non-profit that puts books into the hands of underserved children here in Hong Kong.
As author Matt Haig wrote in his book The Life Impossible: “All reading, in short, is telepathy and all reading is time travel. It connects us to everyone and everywhere and every time and every imagined dream.”
We look forward to spotlighting the power of books and reading to transport you to unimagined and reimagined destinations.
