Book Week Workshops for Years 6, 7 and 9 with author Ritu Hemnani

Dear Families,

Celebrated author Ritu Hemnani will be visiting DBIS during Book Week to deliver workshops with Year 6, 7 and 9 students.

Ritu’s evocative historical verse novel, Lion of the Sky, about the British partition of India has been shortlisted for this year’s Hong Kong Golden Dragon Book Awards and received a Kirkus-starred review. She has also authored a picture book about Partition titled Gope and Meera.

Using her books, Ritu’s workshops with Years 6 and 7 will focus on migration, a topic both year groups have been exploring. Year 9, who are doing a poetry unit, will be introduced to the verse novel and explore some impactful poetry.

As part of Ritu’s visit, students and families have the opportunity to secure signed copies of her books. Orders placed prior to the visit will be signed by Ritu and delivered during Book Week. There will also be an opportunity to purchase copies on the day. Details of Ritu’s books and how to order one or both can be found HERE.

Ritu’s visit is sure to be both a memorable and valuable experience for our students.

Kind regards,
DBIS Library, Year 6 Team, Secondary Humanities Team & Secondary English Team
