Dear Parents
“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives.” Matilda by Roald Dahl
Welcome to the DBIS Library!
Our gateway to all things books and reading is the library’s website. Please take a few minutes to visit the site and familiarise yourself with it and the library catalogue.
At DBIS we have an ongoing commitment to promoting an ethos of reading for pleasure in all our students. Aside from tapping into “new worlds”, “amazing people” and “exciting lives”, research overwhelmingly shows that reading for pleasure leads to a myriad of benefits, including literacy, social skills, health, and learning outcomes (visit here to learn more). In addition, we appreciate that opportunities for non-screen time will be welcome by many, given students will spend considerable time engaged in online learning.
As such, we want to ensure all students have access to physical books that support both their personal reading pleasure and their learning.Â
Borrowing by students as part of their weekly library session
Primary students are timetabled for a library session once a week. During their session, your child will have the opportunity to request up to 2 books and submit their request using an online form. Details of how to do this will be shared with your child during their first library session.
Use of this service will require an adult in your household to come to the school according to the timetable below to pick up the requested books, as well as, drop off the previous week’s loans. Having experienced over and over again the rewards books bring to students, we hope this small inconvenience will greatly outweigh the numerous benefits books provide your child.
Books can only be collected between 3pm and 4pm near the DBIS main campus gate. If you miss collecting your child’s library books, please note, we will not be able to hold them for later collection. They will be returned to the library and checked in.

* Except Y3, collection day will always be the next school day after your child’s timetabled library session. Should collection day fall on a public holiday, collection will move to the next day that school is open.
Additional borrowing by families
In addition, we have many families who regularly borrow from our collection in order to supplement those being selected and borrowed by their child. As such, we will be offering an online book request service for families using THIS FORM. Instructions and conditions of this service can be found on the form and we appreciate that these be read carefully. We ask that you do not use this family service in lieu of your child making their own selections during their weekly timetabled library session. However, we would suggest that you submit your requests on the same day as your child’s library session and collect (and return) all books at the same time.
In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me on the email address below if you have any questions.
Best regards
