Dear Parents and Secondary Students,
“The greatest gift is the passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination”. Elizabeth Hardwick
Welcome to the DBIS Library!
Your gateway to all things books and reading at DBIS is the library’s website. Please take a few minutes to visit the site and familiarise yourself with it and the library catalogue.
At DBIS we have an ongoing commitment to promoting an ethos of reading for pleasure in all our students. Aside from consoling, distracting and exciting, research overwhelmingly shows that reading for pleasure leads to a myriad of benefits, including literacy, social skills, health, and learning outcomes (visit here to learn more). In addition, we appreciate that opportunities for non-screen time will be welcome by many, given the considerable time engaged in online learning.
As such, we want to ensure all students have access to physical books that support both their personal reading pleasure and their learning.
Students are welcome to request books from our library by going to the library’s website where they will find a link to an online request form set up specifically for Secondary students.
Books requested before 12 noon can be collected between 3pm and 4pm SAME day. Books requested after 12 noon can be collected between 3pm and 4pm NEXT day. The collection point will be near the DBIS main gate. Please note, we can only hold books for two school days after which they will be checked in and returned to the shelves. The loan period is 2 weeks from the date of request.
To assist students, we have created recommended reading lists, which can be found by scrolling through the Quick Lists drop-down menu on the library’s website. Throughout the school year, the Library will also share new books and additional recommendations via English lessons.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me on the email address below if you have any questions.
Best regards
