Character & Culture – Being READY for School (Uniform Expectations)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have spoken with our Secondary students this week regarding school uniform requirements. We want to strengthen our approach to being proud in our school uniform and free from distractions. We do appreciate individuality, but we request that expressing identity through jewellery, make-up, nail polish etc. is left to personal time – not while in school.

We would appreciate your support to ensure our students are meeting our general school uniform expectations to avoid any unnecessary conversations.

Message shared with students:

“There is an understood expectation that all students from Year 7–11 can wear a small, single hooped earring or stud in each ear. Jewellery of cultural belief or significance can be worn, but should not be visible above the school uniform. Parents must email their Head of Year to confirm that culturally significant jewellery may be worn. Until such an email is received, students will be asked to remove any jewellery that does not adhere to the above requirements.

Fingernails should be short and allow safe practice when involved in PE. Fingernail polish should be plain or natural coloured.

If our students are observed using their mobile phones during school hours, they will have their mobile phones removed and held by reception until the end of the school day. The exception is for the use of the canteen ‘octopus’ system.

If this happens again within that term, then an adult will need to come and collect the phone and/or jewellery. Names will be recorded to assist us in this process.

This will be consistently acted upon from 8th September 2025.”

Kind regards,

Jason Broderick
