Chinese New Year Celebration and Dress-up 2021

Dear DBIS community,

We are very excited to be celebrating the Chinese New Year 2021 this year!  Although we are not able to have all those fun hands-on activities happening this year due to the circumstances, we will have an EY1-Y6 CNY Assembly that starts at 2:20 pm on Friday 5th February, and the Secondary tutor group celebration starts at 10:00 am during Secondary Assembly time on Monday 8th February.

We will also have an optional dress-up day with a $20 donation to Impact HK for all children and staff in DBIS. Everyone is encouraged to dress in traditional Chinese style outfits or red/gold/yellow clothing for their designated dress-up day and bring 20HKD to support homeless people in Hong Kong during this challenging time.

Dress-up schedule as follows:

Monday 1st Feb – Year 6

Tuesday 2nd Feb – Year 5

Wednesday 3rd Feb – EY2

Thursday 4th Feb – Year 4

Friday 5th Feb – Nursery/Reception/EY1/Year 3;  Year 8/9/12;  EY/Primary staff

Monday 8th Feb – Year 7/10/11/13;  Secondary staff

Everyone is encouraged to dress up for their Google Meet assembly as well.

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon and this year, the first day of the Chinese New Year is on Friday 12th February, initiating another year of the Ox.

We wish you in advance Xīnnián kuàilè, Gōngxǐ Fācái!

新年快年,恭喜发财!
