CNY Celebration 2020

Dear DBIS community,

We are very excited to be celebrating the Chinese New Year 2020 on Friday 17 January this year!  It is also an optional dress-up day for all children and staff in DBIS. Everyone is encouraged to dress in traditional Chinese style outfits or red/gold/yellow clothing on that day.

EY1, EY2, Primary and Secondary students and staff will also participate in a Chinese New Year celebration on the pitch led by our Chinese Department on 17th January. Nursery and Reception classes will enjoy their own in-class or in-campus celebration activities starting from this week onwards.

Our celebration activities will include various performances, handicraft booth activities, storytelling and fun Chinese sports competitions such as Jianzi Kicking, Rope Jumping and challenge of chopsticks skills!

Event time and location:

Year 1 to Year 6:  9:00-13:50 on the pitch; 14:00-14:30 on the netball court.

Secondary: 14:00-15:15 on the pitch.

Chinese New Year is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon and this year, the first day of the Chinese New Year is on Saturday 25th January, initiating another year of the Rat.

We wish you in advance Xīnnián kuàilè, Gōngxǐ Fācái!

新年快年,恭喜发财!

Warm regards,
Chinese Department
