End-of-Year 10 Bulletin 2022/23

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 10,

As we come to the end of another academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of our Year 10 students. This has been our first complete face-to-face academic year since 2020, and it has been a challenging year for all of us. I am proud of the resilience and determination that our students have shown throughout.

We ended Term 3 with a field trip to Crossroads International, Tuen Mun, on 15th June. The students took part in a simulation that required them to try and survive in their ‘families’. Their challenges included making paper bags out of newspaper and flour paste and earning enough money for rent, food, and sanitation. We had an opportunity to come together as a group on 21st June and have an end-of-year potluck lunch party. It was wonderful to see the students take on roles in menu planning, logistics, and the clean-up. The Year 10 students have increasingly demonstrated their commitment to learning, their ability to collaborate effectively with others, and their leadership potential. They have also shown a strong sense of responsibility towards themselves, others and the environment.

As we prepare for next academic year, I would like to remind parents and students that Year 11 is an important year in the students’ academic journey. It is a time when students choose their A Level subjects and make important decisions about their education and career paths. Year 11 students will be expected to choose their A Level and BTEC 3 options at the end of September. We have begun having conversations with students about the minimum entry requirements into Year 12.

Towards this, we had a Unifrog careers and subjects workshop on Wednesday 7th June. A few things we covered on the platform were completing a personality and/or skills quiz, how to research and analyse the careers and university subjects the Year 10s were eyeing, based on the quizzes taken, looking at potentially strong A Level subjects to consider, and researching their ideal universities on the platform.

Students are aware that one of the prerequisites to Sixth Form is the need for five IGCSEs or more with a minimum of Grade 4/C and a minimum of Grade 6 or B in the subjects of their choice. Please note that Mathematics will require Grade 7 and Further Mathematics will require Grade 8. Further details of this will be provided through an official announcement and an A Level options evening next academic year.

Over the summer break, students are encouraged to take some time to reflect on their academic achievements and set goals for the coming school year. This is an important time for students to think about their strengths and areas for improvement and to plan how they will continue to grow and develop as learners. Subject teachers have assigned students summer work to prepare them for the challenges of Year 11.

The first day of the new academic year will be on Thursday 17th August 2023. On this day, students will be welcomed back to school and will have the opportunity to meet their teachers. We are excited to start 2023–24 with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Please be aware of and ask your children to be ready to meet school uniform expectations and bring the required equipment.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Year 10 students a restful and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to seeing them back at school in August 2023, ready to complete their IGCSEs.

Best regards,

Amrith Prabhu
