FS-2 Home Reading

Dear FS-2 Families,

Next week, FS-2 children will begin to take home a sound and reading book.

All children will begin with a wordless picture book. Wordless picture books are great for encouraging a child’s ability to infer what is happening in a story. With no words for guidance or distraction, they have to figure this out, using only the illustrations and their imagination. This not only develops comprehension but also deepens their overall understanding of story structure and plot, develops their communication skills and broadens their vocabulary.

Your child will also bring home a sound booklet with all the letter sounds taught to date. Please encourage your child to practise these sounds regularly as confidence in recognising these speedily will help with their reading and writing skills.

You will also receive a Home/School Link Book alongside these books. This book has detailed information on how the home reading programme will run and gives you helpful tips on how to support your child with reading. You can also use this book to record your child’s reading at home.

If you have already done so, please send in an A4 or A3 zip folder (please note this is in addition to the library folder) for your child to take their books home. Class teachers will communicate the day these need to be returned to school each week.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your class teacher.

Kind regards,

The FS-2  Team
