Head of Year 11 Welcome and Key Dates for Term 2

Dear Year 11 Community,

I have been so impressed by the engagement from our fantastic students in relation to the preparation and carrying out of Year 11 mock examinations. Not only is this a great opportunity for a ‘trial run’ before the summer, but also analysis of the exam papers will help students to focus their efforts over the next 10 weeks before the Easter break.

The mock results will be published to parents as part of the ‘Strength and Target’ report, which is due to be published on Thursday 9th February. As part of this process, students will review their papers with their subject teachers and will be able to bring the papers home afterwards.

Looking ahead further into the year, the Year 11 Parent–Teacher–Student conference (PTSC) will take place on the evening of Thursday 20th April. This will provide an opportunity for parents and students to receive some final guidance from teachers before the students begin their study leave for the summer exams (finer details of this will be shared closer to the time of the event).

Study leave is currently expected to begin during the early weeks of May, and students will only be in school when attending their GCSE examination. Students will then be invited back into school after their exams for a final day of Year 11 (details of this will be shared closer to the time).

After seeing how hard our students have worked in preparation for their mock exams, I strongly suggest that they take a well-deserved break over the Chinese New Year holiday. Of course, if they wish to use this time to catch up on outstanding pieces of coursework, then that may alleviate some pressure for them at a later date.

Otherwise, I hope the students come back after Chinese New Year feeling well rested, ready to ‘hit the ground running’ in Term 2.

Wishing you a prosperous new year,

Nicholas Moore
Head of Year 11
