Provision for Primary Students Unable To Return To Campus

Dear Primary School Families,

Provision for students who are unable to come to school for face-to-face learning

Whilst we are delighted to be welcoming our children back for in-school classes after the Easter break, we appreciate that there is a relatively small number of students who are currently not in Hong Kong, or who are under quarantine and therefore are not able to return to the school campus for the start of the new term on Tuesday 19th April.

Once the children return to face-to-face classes, our focus will need to be on teaching the class in situ and therefore we will not be in a position to continue with the current online learning programme for children who are unable to return to the school campus at this time. Please find information below regarding how we can support children’s learning during this time:

  • Children will continue to have full access to their Google Classroom and Seesaw accounts, therefore they can access the learning materials shared on these platforms. Teachers will provide feedback wherever possible; however, please be mindful that this will be completed on Hong Kong time.
  • Children will continue to have access to all the online learning support programmes like Spelling Shed, TT Rockstars and other school-subscribed resources, and there are now many reputable sites such as Khan Academy, BBC Bitesize and Oak National Academy offering online instruction that can also support students’ remote learning.
  • Children will also have access to Epic and the school library resources that are available online at the following link: library.dbis.edu.hk (although please note this is only accessible during school hours in Hong Kong unless you pay for a family subscription).

Other useful documents that can help support remote learning are The Primary Curriculum Handbook and the Transition Booklets for each year group. These contain an overview of the learning goals for each year group and details of the Discovery Units of learning the children will be following in school. All of the documents can be found on the Parent Hub; however, I have linked to them below for your convenience:

Year 4 Transition Booklet

Year 5 Transition Booklet

Year 6 Transition Booklet

In terms of keeping in touch with your child’s teacher, please feel free to use the Seesaw messaging function or email them at [email protected].

We appreciate that this has been a most challenging time for many families, but we want to assure you that we remain committed to supporting all our children wherever we can, and we very much look forward to the return to school of all Primary children.

Best wishes,

Susan Walter
