Transition to Secondary evening – Wednesday the 2nd of October 2019 from 6:45 – 7:45 pm

Dear Year 6 parents,

I am emailing to slightly modify the plan for the upcoming Wednesday’s Transition to Secondary evening to Wednesday the 2nd of October 2019. This will now start 15 minutes later than advertised and will run from 6:45 – 7:45 pm in the Globe. This is to ensure that there is a smooth changeover from the earlier presentation that evening. My apologies for this additional change, but I believe that this will help to ensure that we can start this event at the best possible time now. There will also be teas and coffees available in the school cafeteria from the 6:30 pm.

The Transition to Secondary evening will focus on providing clarity about the transition process from Year 6 into Year 7, so that everyone fully understands the process. We appreciate that this journey is unique for every child and we will discuss how we will support every single child to be well prepared for their movement into the Secondary phase of Discovery Bay International School. We will also reference some general details about how we have supported the current Year 7 students make the same transition.

I will additionally discuss the differences between the Primary and Secondary phases of DBIS for students going into the Secondary phase. These include explaining the reasons why they will have a wider range of teachers who specialise in different subject areas, whilst also explaining the clear links with their education throughout their earlier years of DBIS. Finally, we will briefly address the IGCSE subject choices that students will make during Year 9 and how the curriculum develops in the older year groups, as that is another important transition within a child’s life.

Kind regards,

Mr. Simon Oakley

Head of Secondary
